What is inside of a ball?

Circle Time:  We opened the R tub to find a rainbow, rat, ring, radio, and robot.  We added our own R words to the list.
The children have been bringing their kindness papers back to school to put in our Kindness Jar.  Today, we read two of them.  They said, "I am kind when I help mom and say love you".  We put these on our bulletin board and will read more of them tomorrow.

Story:  We read Biscuit Plays Ball.  In the story, Biscuit, a dog, has a blue playground ball.  Biscuit and his owner go to the park, but Biscuit is told to "stay"!  He is not allowed to play.  But Biscuit can't sit still and runs after the ball.  He catches it and the ball goes flat.  Now what will they do?  Was it polite to not allow Biscuit to play?  How can they fix this?

Group Time:  I have a baseball that has been cut in half.  Inside, we were able to view a small rubber ball, lots of yarn wrapped around the rubber ball, string wrapped around the yarn, and a leather cover on top.  I asked the children if they knew what was inside of the balls that they had brought to school.  We figured out that a lot of the balls have air in them.  Then I asked them to think about what would happen if we took a ball with air in it and placed it outside.   Will cold air change the ball?  Ask you child to tell you what happened when I placed the ball outside.  Why did it do that?

While we were waiting for the ball to get cold outside, we listened to the song "The Elephant".  The music in this song starts very slowly like a big walking elephant.  Then the music speeds up like an elephant chasing a tiger.  I played the music again and we walked slow when the music was slow and ran when the music was fast.  The children loved this!  Something so simple, and yet so fun!

Art:  The children put a piece of paper into a shirt gift box.  They squirted three puddles of paint of their choice on the paper.  Then they put a rubber bouncy ball in the box and put on the lid.  Next, they shook the box up and down, back and forth, and front and back.  After a while, they opened the box to see what had happened.

Snacks:  The morning class had Scooby Snacks and juice brought by Jayla.  The afternoon class had granola bars and milk brought by Taylor.  Thank you!
