I Am Kind.

Circle Time:  We are learning about the letter R this week.  We learned the R song.  Tomorrow we will open the R tub and make a list of R words.

Story:  We are starting a new unit on being kind.  Before I read the story for today, I brought out Zoey and Max (our puppets).  Zoey had a new bow in her hair.  Max told her that he thought the bow made her look silly.  We talked about how that made Zoey feel.  We came up with words that Max should have said that would have been kind.  I read the book Be Polite and Kind from the library.  This book helped us learn what it means to be kind at school and at home. 

Group Time:  Following the story, I showed the children a paper that said, "I am kind when I_______".  The children are bringing a copy of this paper home today.  They are to think of a few simple words to tell us about being kind.  Please read the note that is attached to it.

During group time, we brought out a piece of equipment to help us learn about balls and air.  It is a vacuum.  The children start by connecting clear tubes with PVC connectors and elbows.  Then, they connect them to the hose from the vacuum which is connected to the end that blows air out.  The children placed balls such as cotton balls, bouncy balls, puff balls, etc. into the tubes and turn on the vacuum.  What will happen?  Which tubes will the balls travel into?  Why do some balls move quickly and some slowly?  We will place this in the play room and let the children explore.

Snacks:  The morning class had granola bars and milk brought by Will.  The afternoon class had Goldfish, string cheese and juice which was brought by Alivia's dad.  Alivia was ill today.  Thanks for the snacks!

We had a few children absent from the morning class and quite a few were absent from the afternoon.  It seems that most were ill with a fever, cough, and/or sore throat.  We hope that everyone gets well soon and comes back to school!
