February is here!

Circle Time We are learning about the letter P this week.  The children are bringing home the letter P song today.  The children also noted that we have started a new month.  The children know that Valentine's Day is coming.

Story:  Daisy and the Ball is a picture book that has no narration.  We had to make up the words for the book just by looking at the pictures.  Using the pictures, the children knew that Daisy was a dog that had a favorite red ball.  Daisy and her owner take the red ball to the park.  Another dog is playing with Daisy.  The other dog pops Daisy's ball as they are playing.  Daisy feels bad.  The next day, Daisy returns to the park and finds that the other dog has brought her a new ball.  Daisy is happy!  The children told me that they enjoyed this book and would like to do more of these types of stories.

Group Time:  We broke into two groups today.  One group did a beginning sound activity.  I had a variety of toys on the table.  The had to sort the toys using the beginning sounds of the toy name.  Not all of the children were ready for this activity yet, but it was a good introduction.

The other group had to opportunity to play with the collection of balls that have been brought to school.   It was fun to roll, bounce, throw and chase the balls.  As always, we switched groups so that the children got to do both activities.

Art:  We made bunny heads to put on our Valentine boxes.  When we finish this project, each child's box will look like a rabbit.  While they were all given the same supplies, it's interesting to see how they all look different.  If your child hasn't brought a box to school yet, see the note that was brought home last week about Valentines Day.

Snacks:  The morning class had peanut butter crackers and milk brought by Payton.  The afternoon class had Scooby Snacks with Nutella and milk.  Thank you!
