How does the food get to the grocery store?

Circle Time:   Today was the grand opening of our grocery store.  We took a few minutes to go over the rules of the grocery store and made a plan for determining everyone's role for the day.  I assured the children that we would keep the grocery store going until everyone had the chance to have a turn at every role.  They are having a great time.

Story:  One of the questions that we came up with when talking about a grocery store was "where does the food come from?"  Today we read the book From Kernel to Corn.  The book showed real pictures of farmers planting and picking sweet corn and then taking the corn to the grocery store.  It was interesting to see how the children noticed that the tractor in the book was a John Deere.

Small Groups:  We used the wet, dry, try boards to create the letter C today.  This was a challenge to remember what way the curve is supposed to go.
We also learned to use a balance scale.  The children used pretend bananas and carrots to make the scale balance.

Snacks:  The morning class had granola bars brought by Will.  The afternoon class had cheese and peanut butter crackers brought by Alivia.
