Pumpkin is good!

Circle Time:  We looked at the H workbook page that we were to complete.  The children were asked to trace the letter H and color the house picture in the book.
It was Birthday Day so we got ready to make our snack.  We have been talking about pumpkins, so I took the pumpkin that we had cut in half yesterday, took out the seeds, and put it in the oven to bake while we made pumpkin muffins.  I had bought a pumpkin muffin mix.  The children helped add the milk, oil, and eggs.

Story Time:  The Very Scary Jack-o-lantern is a book about a boy, Elliot, who wants to carve a scary face on his pumpkin.  He asks his Grandpa Bud how to do it.  Grandpa tells him a story about following a cat, skeleton, ghost and bat to a witches house in the woods. The witch would have a pumpkin for him. By the time he got home, he would be frightened enough to carve a scary face.  After the story, we decided that Elliot really didn't go after the pumpkin from the witch.  Grandpa Bud was just trying to scare him.  What is fun about this book is the fact that it glows in the dark.  So after we read it, we took it into the restroom, which is the only room in the building without windows, and watched the pages glow.

Group Time:  We decided to make our own glow in the dark jack-o-lanterns.  We cut out pumpkin shapes from orange paper.  We didn't have enough time to add the glow in the dark paint, so we will do this on Monday and Tuesday.

Snacks:  We ate the pumpkin muffins that we had made for Birthday Day and celebrated Alexa, Jayla, Perry, and Sunny's birthdays with Birthday Brownies.

Parent Teacher conferences will be held next week.  The PM class will not have school on Monday and their parents will have conferences Monday evening.  The AM class will not have school on Tuesday and their parents will have conferences Tuesday evening.

Mrs. Hoogheem hopes to be back on Monday.  Thank you for your patience as we dealt with missing a staff person all week.  I'll be glad to get back to normal, if there is such a thing!
