Circle Time: I cut open a pumpkin to examine and explore. The children could look, touch, and smell it. They also picked out the seeds. Tomorrow, we will count the seeds and cook the inside.
We make quite a list of H words and found out that it is easier to think of H words than E words.
Story: The Bumpy Little Pumpkin is the story of a little girl who selects a pumpkin from the family pumpkin patch. It is small and bumpy. Her sisters say it is ugly and tell her to chose another one. However, she likes it and her woodland friends help her carve it into a jack-o-lantern. We talked about how the girl must have felt when her sisters told her that the pumpkin was ugly. We thought of how we could make this situation better. The children came up with some great ideas.
Small Groups: We played a musical chairs game using the letters to spell Halloween. It was a fun way to learn how to spell Halloween.
We also mixed yellow and red gel in a zip lock bag to make orange. We took markers and made jack-o-lantern faces.
Art: We used gourds to stamp gold, orange, and green paint onto paper. The gourds had been cut in half. Some of them still had seeds inside.
Snacks: The morning class had peanut butter or cheese crackers brought by Carter. The afternoon class had Whale crackers brought by Colin Ma. Thank you!
