Circle Time: Some of the children have been bringing in colorful leaves that they have found at home or in their neighborhood. When they do, we start the day by looking at them. We talked about E again today and about how this letter has two sounds. Tomorrow will be the day that we make an E list. Please help your child think of a word that starts with E.
Story: We read a story about a grandma who is visited by a pet salesman. He has many pets that he wants to sell to her. The name of the story is But No Elephants. You can tell by the title which pet she does not want to buy. However, when winter comes, the salesman leaves the elephant behind in her yard. Ask you child to tell you what happens next.
Small Groups: We learned the song/fingerplay "Five Elephants".
One elephant went out to play,
On a spiders web one day,
He had such enormous fun
That he called for another one to come "HEY ELEPHANT".
Repeat with 2 up until 5
At 5, the spider web breaks.
I have 5 stuffed elephants, and we used them to act out the story. The children really enjoyed this.
We also played a game of beginning sounds. I wanted to check to see which children have this skill and which children are working on learning this skill. I did not expect many children to know this at this time in the school year, but wanted a baseline so that I know where to start with this skill.
Snacks: The morning class had Cheez-its brought by Katelyn. The afternoon class had hard boiled eggs and wheat crackers brought by Brett. Thank you!
