After our walk and the discovery of two squirrel nests yesterday, we decided to learn a little more about squirrels.
Circle Time: We demonstrated to the children how to cut with a scissors. We showed the children how to put their fingers in the correct position for cutting and how to use a "helper" hand to hold the paper. This is a good skill to practice at home.
Story: Squirrels is a non-fiction book that tells about where squirrels live, their behavior and what they like to eat. Ask your child to name one thing that a squirrel does with his tail. The book also told us that squirrels like to eat nuts, acorn, wheat, fruit, eggs and mushrooms. We wondered what would happen if we put some of these items out in our yard for the squirrels. We may try this on Monday.
Group Time: The children completed "The Ant, the Bug, and the Bee" page in their workbooks. They had to color the bees yellow, the bugs red, and the ants black. Then, they made the bugs crawl up the wall and down the wall with their crayons.
We also went outdoors to play "Squirrels in the Trees". This is a running game in which some children were trees and some were squirrels. The squirrels had to run from tree to tree. We switched roles many times so that everyone had a chance to be both.
Snacks: The morning class had wheat and honey pretzel sticks brought by Ryan. The afternoon class had green grapes brought by Myla. Thank you! Tomorrow will be our cooking/birthday day.
