Our First Birthday Day

If your child is in the morning class, he or she might have mentioned that I was gone for a little while.  I had a meeting that I couldn't miss.  Mrs. Hoogheem and Mrs. Lehenbauer were in charge.

Circle Time:  Today was Birthday Day which meant that we had to cook our own snack.  Since we have been talking about things that grow on trees, we decided to make cinnamon and sugar apples.   The teachers cored and sliced apples, and the children used plastic knives to cut the slices into little pieces.   They sprinkled cinnamon and sugar on the apples and put them into an electric skillet.  We added a little water and allowed them to simmer during play time.

Story:  Baby Bird's First Nest is a story about a little bird that falls out of the nest in the middle of the night.  She can't fly yet, so a friendly frog suggests that she build one of her own.  She builds one on the ground but finds out why a nest should be up in the tree.  Ask your child to tell you what comes along that frightens Baby Bird and makes her hop back up into the tree.

Group Time:  We completed another page in our HWT workbook.  We are learning to make vertical and horizontal lines.  This will help us next week when we make the letter L.

We also went outdoors for some gross motor activity.

Snack Time:  Following the apples, we had birthday brownies (AKA Little Debbie Cosmic Brownies).  We didn't have anyone in the morning class with a September birthday, so we sang Happy Birthday to Mrs. Lehenbauer.  She didn't tell us how old she was however.  In the afternoon, we celebrated Taylor's birthday.

Tomorrow is the Parent Volunteer Meeting at 9:00.  If you are able to help us out in the classroom, we would be happy to see you!  Children may attend.  We will have the preschool toys available.
