What's in a tree?

Circle Time:  We reviewed the song "The Ant, the Bug and the Bee."  I'm hoping that your child will be able to recite a line or two to you.

Story:  What's in a Tree? is a non fiction book that gave us clues to things that grow or live in a tree.  For example, our clues were "What makes the sound che che and has a long bushy tail?"  It was a squirrel.  In our discussion of trees, we had not yet talked about animals that make trees their home.

Group time:  After finishing the story, we gave every child a clipboard, pencil, and piece of paper with the words "what's in a tree?" printed on it.  Then we went outside to see how many things we could find in the trees surrounding the preschool.  We have a wide variety of trees in the yard, so we found many things.  The children documented their finds on the paper by drawing pictures or printing letters.

Snack Time:  The morning class had Cheez-its brought by Russell.  The afternoon class had Motts Medleys brought by Alexa.  Neither Mrs. Hoogheem nor I had seen these before.  They are applesauce and a variety of other fruits and vegetables mixed together, but taste like flavored applesauce.  There was no corn syrup or sugar.

With the cold weather, the children are starting to wear coats to school.  We would like the children to be able to put their coats on by themselves.  If needed, we will help zip for now and will be teaching them to zip soon.   If you have time, we would appreciate it if you could help your child learn this skill.
