Circle Time: We are beginning to learn about the letters of the alphabet. We will do one letter each week. The letter for this week is L. We learned about how the letter L is made and what sound it makes. We also learned the L song. A copy was sent home in your child's backpack along with the October newsletter which explains a little more about learning the letters.
Story: An Apple A Day is a non-fiction book that explains how apples grow. We looked at real apples, and I showed the children how to find the star on the inside of the apple. If you have never done this before, ask your child what to do to find the star.
Group time: We learned a new song about how to make letters. It is called "Where Do You Start Your Letters?" The children are learning that all capital letters should start at the top. The HWT curriculum uses a smiley face on the upper left corner to show children where to start when they are printing. We practiced making lines down on a piece of paper.
We also played a game called "Marching Around the Alphabet". The children marched around alphabet cards. When the music stopped, the chidlren had to pick up a letter and identify it if they knew it. If not, we named it for them. This gives us an idea of which children know the letters and which are just beginning to learn them.
Art: We took the apples that were cut apart during story time to dip in paint and stamp on paper. If they were stamped carefully, the star in the middle is visable.
Snacks: The morning class had raisins and Goldfish brought by Payton. The afternoon class had granola bars and cashews brought by Madeline. Thank you!
