It's a dogs day...

The weather kept us indoors today.  It was too hot and sticky to venture out.  Hopefully tomorrow will be different.

Circle Time:  We used Zoey and Max to learn about walking in school.  There are two places that can be dangerous at school if children are running, one of them is the bathroom and the other is the hallway.  So, we encouraged the children to walk indoors and save running for a game or for outdoor play.

Story:  We are going over colors this week to see how many children can name 8 colors or how many still need to work on color recognition.  Our story was Dog's Colorful Day.  In this story, Dog is white with one black spot on his ear.  Throughout the day, Dog gets 9 other spots on him from various things in the environment.  Your child is bringing home paper that we colored at small group time.  Ask him or her to tell you what created each colored spot on the dog.

Small Groups:  The coloring paper that went with our story was one activity.  The other was a game of music, marching and numerals 1-10 using the dog from our story again.  The children had to identify how many spots were on the dog that they were standing on when the music stopped.

We added the easel to our play time today.  Only two children can paint at a time.  Not everyone got a turn today, but should by the end of the week.  Tomorrow, we will have an art project in which everyone will participate.

Snacks:  The morning class had granola bars brought by Katelyn.  The afternoon class had string cheese and apples brought by Brett.  Thank you!

We closed our day by singing "Oh, I Have a Little Black and White Dog".  The melody is "She'll Be Comin' "Round the Mountain".  Give it a try!
