Today ends our first week of school. We have enjoyed getting to know everyone. I think that we have two good classes of children this year.
Circle time: I used Zoey and Max to talk to the children about what to do when someone is bothering you while the teacher is talking. The children came up with some good solutions to the problem.
Story: Huggapotamus is the story of Albert, the hippopotamus. Albert likes to hug his friends, but his hugs are too strong, too rough and never at the right time. With the help of his friends, Albert learns to ask for a hug and to use gentle touches. Ask your child to tell you what animals were in the story.
Small Groups: One group activity was a guessing game to help the children learn the names of the wooden pieces that are a part of the Handwriting Without Tears curriculum. For the other group activity, the children were shown mats that had various gross motor activities on them. Mrs. Hoogheem would ask them to copy the movement. Ask your child to show you one of the activities that they had to do such as jumping, tiptoeing, toe touching, etc.
Snacks: The morning class had cheese sticks and Goldfish brought by Sarah. The afternoon class had Goldfish brought by Joey. Thank you!
The children have enjoyed singing the "Frog Song". You may want to ask them if they remember the words, motions, or facial expressions.
