Circle Time: Today was the first day that we have had an art project for all of the children to do. So, we took a little extra time to show the children how to put on a paint smock and how to clean up when they are finished. We use paper towels and wet wipes to get most of the paint off of their hands. Then we wash with soap and water just before snack time. Sometimes the paint can be a little hard to get out of their fingernails. I always tell them that it will come off when they take a bath!
Story: My Crayons Talk is the story of a girl who draws pictures with her crayons. The colors she uses "talk" to her about what they represent, such as, brown is for mud pies, purple is for bubble gum, pink is for a clown's underwear... See if your child can remember what each color represented in the story.
Small Group: One of our group activities today was a gross motor game of throw and catch. We used bean bags with a partner. During the other group activity, I asked the children to draw a picture of themselves. I use this as a baseline of their drawing skills. I do not expect every child to draw a perfect picture of a person this early in the school year. For some children, holding the crayon is a little difficult yet. We will work with each child in moving them to the next step.
Art: We used "koosh" rings with which to paint. The children dipped the rings in paint and stamped them onto white paper. They will dry over night and be brought home tomorrow.
Snacks: The morning class had grapes brought by Ava. The afternoon class had apples and peanut butter brought by Richie. Thank you!
