Rainbows

You are probably wondering why we are talking about rainbows today.   Well, usually at this time of year we are enjoying wonderful spring rains and sunny afternoons.  When I dug my lesson plans up from last year,  I noticed that we had done a lot of spring activities by this time.  However, the weather is cooler this year, but I didn't want to miss the chance to do the rainbow activities that the children enjoy.

Circle Time:  We talked about rainbows and how they are made.  We learned what colors are in the rainbow.

Story:  What Makes a Rainbow?  is the story of a little rabbit who sees a rainbow and asks his mother how it was made.  Mother Rabbit tells him to ask his friends.  The red lady bug answers "with red", the orange fox answers "with orange", and so on.  See if your child can remember the colors and animals.

Small Groups:  At the science table, Mrs. Hoogheem had colored water for the children.  They used eye droppers to put drops of colored water on a tray.  Then they used a toothpick to drag the colors together to create new colors.  After experimenting for a while, they took a coffee filter and soaked up the colors.

It was birthday day today.  My group made Rainbow Toast for snack time.  Rainbow toast is made with milk, food coloring, and bread.  We put the milk into small cups and added the food coloring.  Then we took small brushes and brushed the milk onto the bread.  We put the bread in the oven to toast and spread on butter.  One child commented that it was the best cooking snack ever!

We also completed the V page in our workbook.

Snacks:  Rainbow Toast (see above), juice and birthday brownies.  Happy Birthday to Will and Dax!
