Jump for J

Circle Time:  We are learning about the letter J this week.  We looked at the words in the letter J song about jumping rope.

Story:  The Jacket a Wear in the Snow is the story of a girl who is getting dressed to go outside to go sledding.   This book is a rebus book which means that it has words and then a picture in the word line so that the children can help read the book.   Ask you child to name some of the things that the girl had to put on.

Group Time:  Following the story, I did a group activity with beginning sounds.  I have paper pockets with pictures from the story tucked in the insides.  On the outside, the letter that begins the word is printed on the front.  I would say the letter and the sound and the children would take turns guessing which picture was on the inside.  Some of the children were ready for this and some are still working on it.  It's not a skill that is required at this age, but it's an introduction.

Mrs. Hoogheem's group activity was Jump the River.  She laid out two jump ropes putting a small distance between the ropes.  The children had to try to jump over both ropes.  Then she moved the ropes further apart and they tried again.  She kept going until everyone "fell into the river".  The children enjoy this simple game.

Snacks:  The morning class had Go-gurt and juice brought by Maddie.  The afternoon class had granola bars and juice brought by Ada.  Thank you!

Please take a few minutes to read the note in your child's backpack about the ball study that we are about to begin.
