Circle Time: Because of didn't have school on Monday, we are a little off on our normal week routine. We prepared for wet, dry, try today, which we typically do on Tuesdays, with the letter J. Tomorrow, we will open the J tub and make a list of J words.
Story: Stop That Ball! is a fun story about a boy who hits a ball out of his yard and chases after it. It rolls into a manhole, bounces into a construction site, lands in a tuba, gets into a baseball game, and a few other things before ending up back home. This book is an old Dr. Seuss book so the words rhyme, making it fun to read. If you can find it, it's a great book to read over and over, typical of Dr. Seuss books.
Group Time: We have been growing grass in pop bottle terrariums since the first week that we returned to school after the holiday break. The grass has grown so tall that it sticks out of the top of the bottle. We took two of the bottles and opened them up to explore the roots and stems of the grass.
We collected the balls that everyone brought to school today. After we heard about every one's ball, we tried to come up with various ways to categorize them. We came up with big/small, balls that bounce/balls that do not bounce, bumpy or spikey/smooth, and soft/hard. We would like to keep the balls here for a while to do various activities with them. If you child did not bring a ball, they may do so tomorrow.
Art: Yesterday, we read the story The Jacket a Wear in the Snow. Today, we designed our own jackets using paper and dot markers. The children used dots, lines, curves, and zig zags to create some cute jackets.
Snacks: The morning class had honey wheat pretzels and milk brought by Perry. The afternoon class had pretzel rods, peanut butter, Goldfish, and juice brought by Dax. Dax told us that we could pretend the pretzels were fishing rods, dip them in the peanut butter and catch the fish. Fun!
