Wrapping up the grocery store

Circle Time:  We practiced making the letter Q today which wasn't difficult being that we made the letter O last week.  Tomorrow we will make a list of Q words.

Story:  What's In Grandma's Grocery Bag?  is an interactive book which has grocery bag pockets on the inside.  The text reads "I see something yellow.  What is it?"  The children have to pull a tab to reveal what food is in the grocery bag.  "It's a banana."  The remaining pages have the same text, but different colors and, of course, different food.  The children enjoyed guessing which food was in the bag.

Group Time:  We decided to make a book similar to the one that we read at story time.  The children were given a piece of paper with the words "I see something ______________."  They glued the bottom portion of a small paper bag onto that paper.  Then they had to decide which food item they were going to hide in the bag and create that food with colored paper, crayons and scissors.  We made pull tabs out of Popsicle sticks.  Mrs. Hoogheem and I added the words needed to finish the sentence.  Now we have our own guessing book to read during playtime.

Snacks:  The morning class had muffins and grapes brought by Kaley.  The afternoon class had Pebbles cereal treats brought by Sierra.  Thank you!

We will be finishing our study of the grocery store this week.  Thank you for your help.  I guess we'll have to have a going out of business sale.  Next up for dramatic play, a cookie bakery!
