Turkeys

Circle Time:  We learned a little bit about turkeys today.  A male turkey is called a Tom, a female is a hen, and a baby turkey is a ....  Ask your child to tell you.

Story:  Twas the Night Before Thanksgiving is the story of a class of children on a field trip to the turkey farm.  They enjoy meeting the turkeys and have fun playing with them in the yard.  However, one child finds an ax and wonders what it is for.  When they find out, they are upset and come up with a plan to hide the turkeys.  Ask you child to tell you what happened to the turkeys.

Group Time:  I have turkey cut outs that have rhyming pictures on them.  For example, bear,  chair, snail,  pail, etc.  I hid the turkeys around the room.  The children had to find a turkey and then find a person who had a picture that rhymed with theirs.
We also played a fun gross motor game.  The children were turkeys.  I was a farmer.  The turkeys wanted to cross my field, but I wanted to catch one for Thanksgiving.  I thought of a color and told the turkeys that if they were wearing that color that they could cross over to the other side of the room.  But if they weren't, I would chase them and try to tag them.  Once I tagged them, they became my helpers and we played it again. It's a fun game and they asked to play it over and over.

Art:  We made the paper turkey that they have brought home today.  It was a lot of directions to follow, but they did well.

Snacks:  The morning class had bananas and blueberries brought by Katelyn, and the afternoon class had Go-gurt brought by Brett.  Thank you!
