What did the squirrels eat?

Circle Time:  The morning class had a visit from Zoey and Max (our classroom puppets) to talk about proper play in the block area.  On Wednesday, we had a few children creating guns and weapons and pointing them at other children.  From past experience, it's always hard to get rid of weapons.  Something about them is appealing to children, especially boys, so I wanted to nip this in the bud.  After our discussion, we didn't have any problems.  Lesson learned!  We haven't had this issue in the afternoon class, yet.

We sang the letter L song and noticed that all of the children were singing the words.  Great!

Story:  I am a Leaf  is a story of a leaf's life cycle told by the leaf himself.  In the summer, he is green because of some green stuff called _______.  Ask you child to tell you what that stuff is called.  In the fall, the green stuff goes away and he turns red, yellow, and orange.  The book makes the complete circle of winter to spring and back to summer.

Group Time:  We completed the letter L page in our workbooks today.  We had to trace 4 letter L's and then color a lizard.

We went outdoors to check on the squirrel food.  The squirrels had eaten corn, acorns, a walnut, a graham cracker, peanuts, cheese, and cheese crackers in the play yard which is where the morning class put their items.  The squirrels ate sunflower seeds, acorns, apricots, a hot dog bun, grapes, trail mix, almonds, and peanuts in the front yard which is where the afternoon class placed their items.  I don't know how many squirrels we have, but I'm guessing that they had a little help.  There are still some things out there that I think they will eat.  We'll check again on Monday.

Snacks:  The morning class had animal crackers and grapes brought by Nathan.  The afternoon class had bagels and cream cheese brought by Madison.  Thank you!

Permission slips for the field trip to Shady Knoll are due on Monday!
