Ramps and balls

Circle Time:  We are learning about the letter D this week.  We learned that D is made with a big line and a big curve.  We learned the D song.  This one has a lot of words in it, but I'm sure they will learn it quickly.

Story:  The Five Dog Night is the story of Ezra who is a man who has five dogs.  Down the road from Ezra lives Betty who lives alone.  Betty comes up to visit Ezra and his five dogs often.  One night, she asks Ezra if he is ready for the cold winter weather that is coming.  Ezra says he doesn't need blankets.  Ask your child to tell you why.  Ask him/her to explain the title The Five Dog Night.

Group Time:  We have quite a collection of balls that the children have brought from home.  Today, we put up ramps and rolled the balls down them to see which balls would go the farthest and the fastest.  After many trials, we decided that the small balls worked best on the ramps that we had.  I asked them if they knew how we could get the bigger balls to roll faster.  The children decided that we needed bigger ramps or perhaps ramps that didn't have sides on them.  We'll try that next!

Art:  We painted with balls today.  The children took a paper bowl and squirted their choice of 3 colors of paint into the bottom of the bowl.  Then, they took a rubber ball and dipped it into the paint.  Next, they pressed the ball onto white paper.  The prints are very colorful.  We will send home most of them tomorrow.  Some will be saved for the Art Show that will be coming up in April.

Snacks:  The morning class had Teddy Grahams, dried cherries, and milk brought by Kaley.  The afternoon class had cinnamon bread and apple juice brought by Sierra.  Thank you!
